Skills Shortage Solution:
Engineering Matching and Placement Program Announcement
The current skills shortage in manufacturing companies is increasing. In parallel, many new immigrants need their first work experience in their chosen professions. Manufacturers and new immigrants need a solution.
The Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) has listened to its members by creating a new employment program – the Engineering Matching and Placement Program (E-MAP) to meet the supply and demand in the labour marketplace. The E-MAP program is an employment referral program aimed at placing Internationally Trained Engineers (ITEs) into the manufacturing and exporting sector of BC.
Jointly developed by CME and SITE BC (Society of Internationally Trained Engineers of BC), this Human Resources and Social Development Canada pilot program is being launched in BC only. CME has hired Karen McDiarmid to manage the E-MAP program.

Dr. Roberta Neault, CCC, RRP, CGCF served as a NETWERCC director for several years, and, for over a decade, has contributed to both NETWERCC and ENET through presenting at training days and writing journals.
Roberta represented Canadian career practitioners at the recent International Symposium on Career Development and Public Policy in Sydney, Australia; chaired the BC Team at the Pan-Canadian Symposium in Toronto, served on the NATCON Advisory Board for several years, served as the president of the BC Chapter of the Canadian Counselling Association (and continues as past president), and was recognized as a leader in our field with the Stu Conger Award for Leadership in Career Development and Career Counselling in Canada.
Contributing to the professional development of career practitioners in a variety of arenas, Roberta was one of the first instructors for the Career Development Practitioner program at Douglas College (and in the pilot program at UCFV) and has taught vocational counselling courses for Master’s programs at SFU, UBC, Yorkville University, and Campus Alberta (a consortium involving the universities of Calgary, Lethbridge, and Athabasca). Roberta speaks regularly at local, national, and international conferences and provides customized professional development programs for career practitioners throughout the country.
With Deirdre, Roberta co-developed the internationally recognized Career Management Professional program, with seven specialist certificate streams to facilitate the transition of career practitioners between the diverse arenas of work in our field.
Roberta began her career in this field running a student program for what is now HRSDC, spent many years working in government-funded, community-based employment programs, served for 8 years as a consultant/counsellor/facilitator for a corporate career transition centre, and taught for 8 years in career management programs within university and college faculties, with local and international students.
The latter position resulted in an abiding interest in the unique issues faced by global careerists (i.e., immigrants, expatriates, and repatriating individuals and families). Roberta continues to offer career management services within corporate and educational settings, direct services to clients in career transition (including those recovering from illness or injury), and professional development training to career practitioners, counsellors, and HR professionals, through her business, Life Strategies Ltd.

I'm a UVic alumnus (class of 1977) who has worked as an employment counsellor and in the management of community employment services for many years and was delighted to have the opportunity to return to campus as a staff member in 1991.
I was hired as manager when Career Services became the newest department of UVic's Student and Ancillary Services, after it had been federal government Canada Employment Centre on-campus for 25 years.

In 2005, Kathy worked with Michelle Sue, Human
