Roni Cahen and Bev Superle are instructors in the Burnaby Community and Continuing Education Early Childhood Education program. They have studied the approach of the schools of Reggio Emilia for many years and have visited these early childhood centres in Italy twice.
Both Roni and Bev have sought ways to make Reggio inspired practice a reality for the many adult students and ECE practitioners with whom they work.

March 23, 2009 - Joel Kaplan replaces Joseph Kahn-Tietz as Executive Director
Joel brings 35 years of experience in Jewish communal service, fundraising and management to JFSA. Prior to his appointment at JFSA, he was the Development Director of The Arc Hamilton County in Cincinnati, OH. In that position Joel increased annual funding from numerous foundations, which supported both programs and building organizational capacity. Joel also worked closely with corporate and agency partners to raise the profile and status of the agency.
Joel also brings more than 10 years of E.D. experience from JFS agencies in Flint, MI and Cincinnati, OH. We all welcome Joel to this new position at JFSA.
April 17, 2009 - The Jewish Family Services Agency (JFSA) has a new executive director. One year ago, Joseph Kahn-Tietz, who had been at the helm of JFSA for nine years, took a job in San Francisco. Knowing that the agency was in the capable hands of 18-year veteran of JFSA, Charlotte Katzen, for the duration of the search, the board of directors took their time to find the right match in a new leader. On March 23, 2009 Joel Kaplan came from Cincinnati to begin his work at Vancouver's JFSA.
Kaplan's experience in the Jewish community speaks to his understanding and dedication. He began his career in 1974, working with teens at the Boston Jewish community centre. In 1977, he took a break from the American Jewish community and turned his energy to working in Israel. During the course of those two years in Israel, he engaged in what he recalled with a smile as, "nitty, gritty social work."
Trained in an area of social work focused on community organization, Kaplan returned to the United States in 1979 to take up a position at the JCC in St. Louis, followed by a job in Houston. His last JCC position was as the executive director of the Nashville JCC in 1994. After 20 years, it was time for different challenges.
Kaplan's undergraduate degree is in Judaic studies, which may account for his keen interest in working with the Jewish community. For five years, he was top dog at both the federation and Jewish family services in Flint, Mich. Following that experience, he made Cincinnati his home. After working for a few years at the Cincinnati JFSA, he branched out into consulting work, focusing on the nonprofit sector.
Meanwhile, Kaplan's wife, Roz, worked as the chief operations officer at the Cincinnati JCC. She oversaw that JCC's transition from a small location to a storefront and then into a 150,000-square-foot building. Once that project was finished, Kaplan made the decision to again take on a new challenge himself, and relocate to Vancouver. He has never lived in Canada before.

Originally from Ontario, Paula came to BC to do her masters degree in social work. After graduating, she moved to Lillooet where she was a frontline worker with a generalized caseload that included income assistance, child protection and services to individuals with developmental disabilities.
Paula managed a range of programs over the years at MCFD headquarters including childcare, service to seniors, community grants and services to children with special needs.

Marsha Goldford, M.P.A., is a certified human resources professional, formerly employed with BCBC as a senior HR advisor.
Marsha spent her early career in local government finance and intergovernmental policy development, later moving into management positions in social housing and residential tenancy programs.
Until her recent move to Vancouver, Marsha was an active member of the Victoria Senior Citizens Housing Society Board and chair of Capital Mental Health Association's personnel committee. She now sits on the Red Door Housing Society board in Vancouver and continues to serve as a volunteer resource to member societies on matters related to human resources management.
Marsha has a masters degree in public administration from Queen's University, a B.A. in political science and French from University of Western Ontario, and a graduate certificate in human resource management from Royal Roads University.

David MacPherson has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Victoria and a Master of Social Work from the University of British Columbia. He has worked for most of his professional career in the community living field, including positions as Director, Special Needs Policy and Director, Adult Services for the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
David retired in 2003 and established a consulting business, working with various government ministries and agencies. While consulting, he served on the board of Community Living Victoria. David joined CLBC as a Quality Service Manager in 2007, and was appointed Director of Regional Operations for Vancouver Island in 2009.

Sharon has been committed to supporting individuals and families in community living for over 25 years. Originally from Ontario, Sharon worked with children and youth with special needs both in child protection and the school system. She worked for the Burlington Association for Community Living supporting adults with developmental disabilities for 5 years prior to moving to British Columbia in 1989.
Sharon worked for the Delta Community Living Society for over 16 years managing a number of program areas and served as the Executive Director prior to joining CLBC in 2005 as a Community Planning and Development Manager. She was appointed Director of Regional Operations for the Vancouver Coastal Region in 2011.

Prior to beginning his work at CLBC in 2005 as the Director of Strategic Planning, Brian was a part-time faculty member from 1992 - 2001 in the Community Support Worker Program at Kwantlen University College.
From 2001 - 2005, Brian worked as a contractor with the Interim Authority for CLBC and the Ministry of Children and Family Development in a variety of roles in support of BC's move to a community governance model in community living.
From 1993 - 2005, Brian also travelled extensively in Canada, the USA, Australia and the United Kingdom where he worked as a part time consultant on various disability policy issues, including the implementation of individualized funding and independent planning support.

Doug has been involved in community living for 25 years as a volunteer, as a paid staff person with the Interim Authority for Community Living, and with the Ministry of Social Services as a regional director. Doug also served as the executive director of Delta Community Living Society from 2000 to 2005.

Prior to November 1, 2006, Tung Chan was district vice-president of 17 TD Canada Trust branches. He first joined TD Bank Financial Group in 1978, and also served as a Vancouver councillor for one term, from 1990 to 1993.
Mr. Chan has served on the boards of numerous community organizations. Among others, he has served in the leadership of The Boys' and Girls' Club of Vancouver (Director); International Financial Center Society of Vancouver (Vice Chair); Richmond Public Library (Chair) and E-Comm Emergency Communications For Southwest BC Inc. (Chair).
He also helped found the Richmond Bogside Boy Scout Group (Advisor); The Kelowna Chinese Cultural Association (Treasurer); The Pender Guy Radio Program (Producer); and The Centennial Toastmaster Club (Mentor).
Among other community involvements, Mr. Chan is a member of the BC Premier's Chinese Community Advisory Committee, Chair of the Advisory Committee of Fairchild Television, a member of the Board of Governors of Kwantlen University College, and a Board Advisor of the Vancouver Summer Festival Society.
Tung Chan, a native of Hong Kong, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of British Columbia.
