Drever became a franchisee with the company in January 1988, two years after graduating from the British Columbia Institute of Technology with a degree in small business development and entrepreneurship.
He did his homework before plunking down the franchise fee, which was only $7,500 at the time, and opening a small CruiseShipCenters outlet in an office
complex in downtown Vancouver. “I wanted to get into something that could be franchised, that catered to baby boomers, and that was a specialty business," he says. “My research showed that those are all high-growth segments."
He proved very good at selling travel - his franchise was number 1 in the system within nine months. But the company itself wasn't doing so well. The principals ran into financial difficulty and could not raise fresh funds to restructure the operation.
Drever stepped in with an offer to purchase the assets. He spent a year on an internal overhaul that included developing new, more effective accounting and marketing systems. He relaunched CruiseShipCenters in 1990 and the company has never looked back.

Ryan is the President of Invoke and founded the company in 2000. His focus is on the overall vision and strategy of the company. Ryan's experience combines diverse management skills with solid industry and technical knowledge.
Ryan gained rounded academic knowledge through the University of Victoria School of Business and hands on entrepreneurial experience through several startup ventures including founding a restaurant chain, a tourist adventure business, and an ecommerce store with 3m+/year revenues.
HootSuite CEO Ryan Holmes' entrepreneurial endeavors include successes in a variety of industries from founding a pizza restaurant chain to building the top online paintball equipment supplier in Canada before founding Invoke, the agency that created the popular social media dashboard tool.
His interest in tech emerged early after winning an Apple II in an elementary school programming contest. Ryan founded digital agency Invoke Media in 2000 to provide holistic marketing, development and design services. Invoke also developed products including early CMS and e-commerce web apps, the Memelabs contesting platform, and then social media dashboard HootSuite.
Rapid growth led to spin-out and funding of HootSuite in December 2009.
Ryan frequently presents at conferences internationally - including 140tc, OMMA, 140conf, IMA, Open Network Labs - speaking about the evolution of the social web. He is widely quoted in media sources including NY Times, Wall Street Journal, Guardian (UK), and Venture Beat. Shea Sinnott is the Operations Manager of OpenMedia.ca. Shea received her B.A. in Cultural Studies and Communications from McGill University, where she undertook research projects focusing on the political economy of communication and information policy and Canadian approaches to free and open source software policy.
She is particularly interested in the way the Internet alters and expands means of human connection, facilitates new ways of sharing, and encourages artistic and creative collaboration.

Reilly Yeo is the Managing Director of OpenMedia.ca. Reilly is an organizer, facilitator and online communications consultant with ten years experience in the not-for-profit sector. She has a diverse professional background that includes work with Amnesty International, The Walrus magazine, and the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Reilly led the organizing team for the first Vancouver ChangeCamp, and facilitated cross-country in-person and online dialogues with the Canada's World project at the SFU Centre for Dialogue.
Reilly has an MA in comparative politics from McGill University and is currently combining her not-for-profit work with an academic career in literature and political theory. She is a specialist in online communications on complex issues.

Bringing over 23 years of experience, Claire Smith, CMP was appointed Vice-President, Sales and Marketing in June 2008. Claire is responsible for strategic business development, leading and directing the VCEC sales department, as well as positioning the facility in the global marketplace.

Claire is a recognized expert in her field and has been a featured speaker and session facilitator at ASAE, MPI and PCMA. She was Meeting Professionals International (MPI) British Columbia Chapter President in 1996/97 and has actively participated on various International committees and Advisory Boards.
