Shayne received his B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo in 1988 and is a Professional Engineer.
Shayne serves on the Board of Directors for the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and is a member of various industry and special interest groups including the Innovation Council (Conference Board of Canada), Ontario Economic Summit (Steering Committee), Program Advisory Committee (Ontario Institute of Technology), the Product Development and Management Association (PDMA), and Presidents of Enterprising Organizations.
In prior years, Shayne played as instrumental role in promoting Canada as the site for a multibillion dollar energy research project, led numerous international delegations, and served as a founding board member for the public/private stakeholder organization formed to promote the project internationally.

Before co-founding Navarik with Bill Dobie in 2000, Martin Ertl worked as a lawyer at Davis & Company, a full-service Canadian law firm, practising in intellectual property and corporate/commercial litigation, international trade and investment law, alternative dispute resolution, employment law, constitutional law, and administrative law.
The Government of Canada appointed Martin to serve as one of 30 members of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Advisory Committee on Private Commercial Disputes.
Martin holds a Bachelor of Laws (with Distinction) from McGill University and a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of British Columbia. In 2005, Martin was appointed Chair of the University of British Columbia Alumni Association, which has over 200,000 members worldwide.

Bill Dobie founded Navarik in 2000 with several partners, including Martin Ertl, after several years as a marine shipping professional, then led the company through its startup phase, during which we acquired several key customers and and established ourselves in the maritime shipping industry.
Bill was a chartering manager for a major international ship operator, as well as a ship agent and shipbroker for World Wide Shipping and Chartering Ltd. in Vancouver. At each company, he also evaluated its information technology needs and oversaw the deployment of new solutions for them.
Wherever he has worked since the early 1990s, Bill has led the evaluation of information technology needs and overseen the deployment of new solutions for them. Bill received Business in Vancouver magazine's "40 Under 40" award, recognizing important young entrepreneurs in British Columbia, in 2005.
Today, with Navarik's day-to-day operations in the hands of an experienced management team, Bill's focus is once more on the reason he started the company: working directly with key major customers and our design and development team, to create online systems and services that help make the industry more productive and efficient.
