From 1996 to 2002 Dr. Kalmar held senior management positions with Kinetek Pharmaceuticals Inc., a privately held Vancouver-based biopharmaceutical company that was acquired by QLT in March, 2004. Sally Greenwood brings over 18 years of experience in the non-profit, health care and social services sectors. She also held senior positions with BC Transplant and the BC Centre for Disease Control, agencies of the Provincial Health Services Authority.

Dr. Sarah Hartley is responsible for investigating and supporting GE³LS research - genomics-related ethical, environmental, economic, legal and social research. Dr. Hartley's role as the GE³LS Advisor involves advising directly on GE³LS issues associated with genomics science projects, supporting the GE³LS research community, and providing a forum for debating the social and ethical issues around genomics and proteomics research. Dr. Hartley is an active member of Canada's national GE³LS community.
In addition to her position at Genome BC, Dr. Hartley holds an Adjunct Professor position with the Department of Political Science at Simon Fraser University. She has a research interest in the interface between science, values, and public policy and is actively engaged in research in the area of plant and animal biotechnology and the role of social science and humanities research in genomics science research.
Dr. Hartley is a co-Principal Investigator (along with Dr. Conrad Brunk, University of Victoria) on a three year project, funded by the Advanced Foods and Materials Network, entitled Animal biotechnology: What's at stake? Values in conflict and implications for public policy.
Dr. Hartley obtained her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Toronto, where she also taught Canadian Environmental Politics, and Values, Ethics and Public Policy. She has published a number of academic articles.

“It takes a certain type of person to be a really good caregiver, and if that is what you feel happy doing then pursue the work," she said.
Nurse Next Door co-founder John DeHart said his company continues hiring in Vancouver and across Canada. It holds numerous monthly job fairs and are constantly interviewing for the “right" caregivers.
“We really look for out-of-the-box thinkers who were born to deliver exceptional customer service. [They are] hard to find, so we are always searching," he said.
Home care is new to a lot of health-care professionals and requires a completely unique skill set because individuals are totally on their own, according to DeHart.
“You are responsible for everything, including making decisions. In a hospital or facility setting, there is a lot of support. While we are obviously there for our caregivers every step of the way, they do have to make a lot of decisions day-to-day in the home."
Retired nurses who want to keep working, but no longer want to work in the health-care system are strong candidates.
“They want to work one-on-one with our clients."
Nurse Next Door hires a lot of professionally trained foreign nurses who have yet to become a nurse in Canada, he added. The company also hires baby boomer or senior women who don't have a background in health-care.
“We gear our training and hiring programs toward these types of people."
The ongoing demographic shift has been good for business. While there are more people in need of home care services, Nurse Next
Door offers part-time work opportunities for older caregivers and nurses as they transition into retirement.
“Because of our aging demographic we are beginning to face a major crisis in caring for our seniors, and because of this shift, there is incredible opportunity for caregivers in our industry. If you are passionate about making the lives of seniors better then our industry is a great vehicle to make that happen," said DeHart.

Dr. Plouvier has worked in the biotech industry for more than 15 years with active leadership and involvement in drug discovery and development. Dr. Plouvier recently worked with Cardiome Pharma where he established the company's chemistry department and contributed in his role as Associate Director, Synthetic Chemistry to the discovery and development of several pre-clinical and clinical candidates for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias culminating in the collaborative discovery and clinical development of Vernakalant which is currently pending approval by the FDA. Dr. Brooks is a Chartered Accountant (CA), and also holds a Ph.D. in developmental biology from the University of London, England.
Prior to joining Genome British Columbia, he was a Senior Manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers in their Vancouver Life Sciences group, where he was responsible for managing a portfolio of early stage private and later stage public clients. He has extensive experience in providing accounting and assurance services and advising companies on corporate governance, internal controls and general business matters. He is knowledgeable in US and Canadian GAAP and has worked on a number of public and private equity and debt offerings. Dr. Brooks joined PwC in 1995 and spent three years in their San Jose, California office.

Jacqueline Saleem is a former high school English and Social Studies teacher who put her teaching career on hold last year to pursue her Masters in English Literature at the University of British Columbia. Already a vegetarian and an avid runner, Jacqueline has recently taken up yoga as a way to stay fit and focused; however, she allots most of the credit for her good health to her greyhound and Jack Russell terrier who never ever accept “I'm too busy" as an excuse.

Dr. Bryce Kelpin has been a resident of West Vancouver for over 30 years. Dr. Kelpin attended the University of British Columbia from 1978 to 1989; during which time he progressed in his studies through a Bachelor of Science Degree in two disciplines, into a Masters Degree Program, and graduated in 1989 with his Medical Degree. Then in 1990 Dr. Kelpin completed a rotating internship at Lion's Gate Hospital in North Vancouver where he retains hospital privilages.
Since his internship, Dr. Kelpin has been practicing locum tenens work in West Vancouver, set up three separate clinics, established his own family practice and is now the President and Medical Director of Continuum Medical Care.
