November 15, 2006. The British Columbia Real Estate Association (BCREA) is pleased to announce that Cameron Muir has accepted the position of Chief Economist, effective today.

In the newly-formed Chief Economist position, Muir will provide analysis and forecasting for residential Multiple Listing Service® (MLS®) markets and the provincial economy, and act as BCREA's spokesperson on these matters. Muir will also provide objective economic research to assist the Association's government relations efforts.

“BCREA has a reputation for reliable, credible and unbiased information, and I'm thrilled to be able to contribute to this tradition of service," he says.
According to BCREA President Kelly Lerigny, Muir's skill set and reputation are a perfect fit for BCREA's newest position.

“The addition of a Chief Economist greatly increases our capacity to gather and analyze information. Widely recognized as a credible economist and spokesperson, Cameron's contribution will further augment the Association's lobbying efforts."
Muir began his career in 1986 as a REALTOR® with the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board.

“I still remember how nervous I was negotiating my first sale," recalls Muir. “I must have checked the contract a dozen times to make sure there were no mistakes."
After six years in real estate sales and development, Muir shifted his focus to academic pursuits, obtaining diplomas from Kwantlen University College and the University of British Columbia, a degree from Simon Fraser University and graduate work in economics and property theory.

Prior to joining BCREA, Muir held the position of Senior Market Analyst for the British Columbia region with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. “I've always had a keen interest in the way real estate markets work and their importance in the quality of our lives," says Muir.

Michelle Wong is currently the Director of Evaluation and Strategic Directions for the Office of the Representative for Children and Youth in Victoria, BC. As a life long lover and user of libraries and information, Michelle is a strong believer in the role that libraries play in creating social capital within communities and improving the quality and outcomes of people's lives.

Darlene Gage joined BCCIC as our new Program Officer at the end of 2009, straight from a two year stint as an Organizational Development Advisor in Uganda, Africa. Darlene's background includes several years at the Simon Fraser Public Interest Research Group (PIRG), working with students to mentor them as activists and community organizers.

She is a trained counselor and mediator, and she was also the Executive Director of a community economic development organization on Hornby Island, where she learned first hand the joys and challenges of working and living in a small, rural community in BC.

She has been involved in social change movements for over 20 years, working as a volunteer, Board member and staff member for many organizations and movements.

Andy Ackerman is the President of the BCLTA, Chair of the North East Library Federation and past Chair of the Fort St John Library Board which he continues to sit on as a Board member. Andy is a trainer for BCLTA, having put on a number of Trustee Orientation Program workshops and Board Chair during the past few years.

He is a strong advocate for libraries and is currently on the North Peace Literacy Alliance Executive. He also sits on a number of other Boards and is an active volunteer for Scouts Canada, Fort St John Child Development Centre, United Way, Tourism Fort St John and the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre . Andy retired from the BC Ministry of Environment at the end of June, 2007 and is President of his own consulting company, Myriad Consulting Inc. (www.myriadconsulting.ca).

One of his specialties is strategic planning and he has worked with a number of companies and Boards to develop their strategic plans. Included in the process that he uses is a review of Mission and Vision statements, a review of how Boards are functioning and recommending policies and procedures that better service the Board and organization.

Joy Andrews has worked in the employment industry for over 12 years.She has provided one-on-one employment and career counselling, facilitated and developed programs and managed employment resource centres. She has served on the ENET board since 2007.

Providing employment and career development services for immigrants for over eight years, Joy developed comprehensive knowledge of the challenges for newcomers in continuing their career once they arrive in Canada. In pursuing solutions for these challenges, Joy actively participated in the Employment Access Strategy for Immigrants initiative, the Internationally Trained Professionals Network and the Skills Connect for Immigrants pilot program. She also represented the Affiliation of Multicultural Societies and Service Agencies of BC at the Pan Canadian Sector Council and Immigrant Services Dialogues.

Joy now works as the Client Services Team Leader at the Career Centre in Parksville, BC. She is proud to call the Career Centre her home for many reasons. One of those reasons is the commitment the organization has to supporting the staff in their pursuit of excellence by providing professional development.

Joy holds a strong belief that career development practitioners should have access to networking for sharing best practices and innovative solutions as well as access to meaningful and relevant professional development activities.
