Kathleen Bartels joined the Gallery in 2001. Under her leadership, the organization is redefining itself as "an institution that moves at the same speed as the cyclotron that is Vancouver's art scene." (Time Magazine 2004).
With a willingness to embrace challenge and promote innovation, Bartels is leading a facility expansion initiative that will realize the Gallery's full potential for the next 25 years and beyond.
Ultimately, the plan will greatly increase the Vancouver Art Gallery's capacity by doubling its size to more than 300,000 square feet in order to feature larger and more prestigious exhibitions, provide space for enhanced educational programming and enable the organization to better support Vancouver's finest artists, showcasing their work to the world.

One of the leading business minds in the fitness industry, Leonard Schlemm is Chairman and CEO of Sila Holdings, a Cyprus holding company which owns one of the largest chains of fitness centers in Russia. He is also the President of The Atwater Club, a private racquet club, and the Mansfield Club, a high-end fitness facility, both in located in Montreal.
Leonard was a co-founder of 24 Hour Fitness, one of the world's largest privately owned and operated fitness center chains and was its chairman from 1986 to 1997. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University (great distinction) and an MBA from Harvard (with distinction). He received his CA designation in 1975.

Carla has worked in the fitness industry for over seven years, and has been an athlete her entire life. Sports have always been a passion: during her forming years, she led her high school volleyball team for eight seasons, became a cycling instructor while in university, and has recently become a cross country cycling and outdoor rock climbing enthusiast.
Carla is a certified personal trainer, with further studies in older adult fitness and health& wellness.
Prior to completing her undergraduate degree in business at Ryerson University, in Toronto, Ontario, Carla was the sales and marketing director at an elite fitness center in Quito, Ecuador. While in Toronto, she was hired at an investment management firm as a full time employee, to develop and monitor an employee wellness program for a lapse of three years.
With a desire to explore the West Coast, Carla relocated to Whistler, and subsequently Vancouver, where she dedicated her time to higher level training in sales and the psychology of persuasion. Carla leads our sales team in our downtown Vancouver club.

With over 15 years in the Health & Fitness industry and experience in various countries such as the US, Saudi Arabia, UK and Canada it is easy to see that Lee has a real passion for this environment. Sporting achievements include running track & field plus cross country events for the Scottish School Boys team, District team and various other competitive teams throughout his teens.
More recently Lee has completed numerous events including a 1 day 300 km bike race from Seattle to Portland, Victoria Half Ironman, Canucks Place Adventure Race and multiple Marathons.
Lee was educated through the University of Abertay in Scotland achieving a BSc in Sports Management and Sports Development along with tutor status coaching swimming, instructing lifeguarding courses, first aid courses and numerous other coaching awards including personal training.
From the day Lee could walk he was walking towards a career in the health & fitness industry and here he is. Lee will be heading up our new Richmond site.

Mrs. Lin Yee Goh is a Co-Founder of one of the most successful and most-honoured of ballet academies in Canada. While her training reaches back to Russia's great ballet masters, she upholds both the discipline and excellence of classical ballet's roots, and constantly reaches forward to the international future of dance.
Mrs. Goh's early training was at the Beijing Dance Academy, under Russian masters Elenna Sergeivitski and Nikolai Romancheva, using the Vaganova method. There, she was taught the art of teaching. Upon graduation, she was invited to join the Central Ballet of China, where she danced for nearly two decades and became one of the Company's Ballet Mistresses.
She immigrated to Canada in 1977, and joined her husband, Choo Chiat Goh, on a quest to establish a prestigious ballet academy in their new home. Together, they founded Goh Ballet Academy in 1978. During this time, she cultivated and fine-tuned her ballet instructor skills by attending courses at Royal Academy of Dance. In the late 1990s, Mrs. Goh returned to China to complete her studies in the Vaganova Method with Ms. Romancheva, truly bringing her teaching skills full circle.
The Goh Ballet Academy reflects her deep love of classical ballet and extensive training background. Mrs. Goh introduced the Royal Academy of Dance curriculum to the school, instilling in her students the highest discipline and skills required to rise to the top. Twenty of the Academy's students have reached Solo Seal, the highest honour of the Royal Academy of Dance. The school has single-handedly put Canada at the top of the most prestigious ballet competitions.
In recognition of their accomplishments and contributions, both she and Mr. Goh were presented with the 2003 City of Vancouver Civic Merit Award and the 2006 BC Community Achievement Award.

Canadian born violinist Robin Lynn Braun began her musical studies at age five at the Suzuki String School with Martha Kaliniak where she showed great promise and talent.
As a winner of the 1994 Ontario Youth Competition, she made her debut at the Centre In the Square Raffi Armenian Theatre. In 1998 she was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. Ms. Braun has appeared as soloist with the Winnipeg Symphony, Kitchener Waterloo Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, Mississauga Symphony, Sarnia Symphony and has given recitals throughout Canada, USA, Brazil, Mexico, Europe Asia.
Ms. Braun has been invited to several prestigious summer music festivals. Recently she participated at the American Institute of Musical Studies (Graz, Austria), The National Academy Orchestra (Ontario), The Festival of the Sound (Ontario), International Music Festival (Mexico), 2002 and 2003 European Music Festival (Hamburg, Germany), Orvieto Musica Chamber Festival (Orvieto, Italy) and QuartetFest (Waterloo, Ontario).
Ms. Braun has given master classes at the Yewon Arts School in Seoul, Korea the Universidade Federal Do Rio Grande Do Sul Instituto des Artes in Porto Alegre, Brazil, Wilfrid Laurier University and the University of British Columbia. She has performed in Master Classes around the world for violin protégés as, Mauricio Fuks, Jamie Laredo, Martin Chalifour and Aaron Rosan.
Ms. Braun has completed with Honors a Bachelor of Music degree in Performance at Wilfrid Laurier University where she was a student of Jerzy Kaplanek and a Masters of Music degree at Indiana University where she was a student of Mimi Zweig. Ms.Braun held a position of Assistant Instructor of Violin at Indiana University for two years and taught for the Summer String Academy Program at Indiana University.

In May 2007, Wesley Wenhardt became the Maritime Museum's new executive director. Wesley's background includes nine years as vice president, business development and operations at The Tech Museum of Innovation in Silicon Valley, California, and seven years association with the Canadian Museum of Civilization, both renowned learning centres and visitor attractions.
Wes is responsible for all aspects of Museum operations; fundraising, programming, and collections and is an ex officio member of the board of trustees.
Wes has travelled the globe and worked in science centres, museums, tourism and cultural attractions in the United States, South Africa, Scotland, Canada, and Brunei and has restored and operated historic projects; launched IMAX theatres, films and science centres; worked for Expo 86 and raised money for worthy causes.

Michael Vandermeer is a sculptor whose current artistic practice is informed by his training in Nuclear Physics. With a remarkable aptitude for engineering, metallurgy, electronics and chemistry, Michael broadens the studio's palette to include unique materials and technologies.
He has recently added bronze casting to ie creative's material capabilities. In his individual practice, Michael employs contoured electromagnetic fields to illuminate an invisible universe that permeates quotidian reality.
