David manages member and external communications for the AIBC. Reporting to the Executive Director, David is the staff liaison for the Communications Board and its committees, and is responsible for AIBC Communications Department planning, budgeting, and production to fulfill and support Council goals.

Karen Morris joined the AIBC in April 2010 as Manager of Finance and Administration. Reporting to the Deputy Executive Director, she looks after the AIBC payroll, finances, and many of the other administrative functions required to keep the organization running.
Having held her Certified General Accountant designation for 10 years, Karen brings extensive experience in financial accounting, analysis, tax, and supervisory experience.
Karen is yet another native of the Lower Mainland. She is a fan of auto racing, a BMW enthusiast, and an avid gardener.

Paul practised both Engineering and Architecture for 25 years in Montreal. Since moving to Vancouver in 1995, he has acted as an owner's representative, providing guidance to owners in the process of development, design and construction of real estate projects.
At the AIBC, Paul has served as a volunteer on several committees, including those which deal with building envelope issues and standards of practice. He joined the institute in 2009 as a part-time practice advisor. In September 2011, he became Director of Professional Services with general oversight and responsibility for the AIBC's professional development and practices advice service centres.

Born in Montreal, Michael received his Bachelor of Architecture Degree from McGill University in 1968. He later acquired his MS in Architecture from Cornell University. He joined the AIBC as a member in 1974, and from 1970 to 1990 was a visiting faculty member at the University of British Columbia School of Architecture.
Michael's architectural career includes work with architectural firms in Montreal and New York state. In 1972, he joined the Vancouver firm of Rhone and Iredale before moving to Thompson, Berwick Pratt & Partners in 1974. He became a principal at Watson-Donald + Ernest in 1978 prior to establishing his own firm in 1982, which continues today.
Michael's AIBC involvement began as an oral examiner in 1976. That year he also joined the institute's Intern Architect Program Committee and Examining Board. From 1978 to 1982, he was a member of AIBC Council including terms as vice-president and registrar. Michael became the institute's Director of Professional Practice on a part-time basis in 1983. In 1993, it was made a full-time role, a position held until his current appointment. From 1999 to 2005 he also served as the AIBC's Director of Professional Development.
As part of his AIBC work, Michael has served as a member of the Canadian Construction Documents Committee (1995-2007), the British Columbia Provincial Government Modernization Strategy working groups and the Public Construction Council of B.C.

David O'Laney is a heritage planner. He is a graduate of the University of Alberta who recently completed the University of Victoria's Diploma Program in Cultural Resource Management and an additional certificate with a specialization in Heritage Conservation. Dave's work for Commonwealth has included planning, researching and writing Statements of Significance, involvement in municipal heritage plans, and public consultation.
He was Commonwealth's local coordinator for the Kinsol Trestle Rehabilitation Study on Vancouver Island. Dave has spent time in the BC Interior working within the non-profit sector of cultural management, and in Alberta working in a private / public partnership with the Alberta Government (Parks and Protected Areas).

Jonathan Yardley has been a close associate of Commonwealth since 2004. He received his diploma of architecture from the Birmingham School of Architecture (UK).
After working for architects in Sweden and the UK, he came to Vancouver in 1967. He worked with Erickson/Massey Architects, and Thompson, Berwick, Pratt and Partners before opening his own practice in 1972. Jonathan is a member of the boards of the Canadian Association of Professional Heritage Consultants, the BC Association of Heritage Professionals, and is president of Heritage BC.
He resides on Salt Spring Island, where he maintains an independent general practice as Jonathan Yardley, Architect Inc. He is currently involved in numerous architectural and conservation projects (both new work and historic buildings) on Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, and in Metro Vancouver.
Jonathan has worked on several local, regional and international architectural conservation projects for Commonwealth.

Christin Doeinghaus is a building conservation specialist and heritage planner. She received her diploma of architecture from the University of Applied Sciences in Dortmund (Germany) and her M.A. in world heritage studies from the Brandenburg Technical University (Germany).
She is a registered architect in Germany. Before coming to Canada in 2005 and joining Commonwealth, Christin worked with architectural firms, an architectural historian, and heritage organizations in Germany and Norway.
Christin is responsible for the ongoing management of Commonwealth's architectural conservation projects.

Harold Kalman specializes in the planning of heritage and cultural resources. He received his education at Princeton University (US) and had additional training in conservation at Cornell University (US) and York University (UK).
He taught at the University of British Columbia (Canada) for seven years before entering private practice in 1975. Hal has been the founding president of the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals and the BC Association of Heritage Professionals, and was chair of the Vancouver Heritage Commission.
He is a member of the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada, and has served on the boards of the Heritage Canada Foundation, Heritage BC, the Association for Preservation Technology, and ICOMOS Canada.
He is the author (or co-author) of many standard texts on conservation and architecture, including A History of Canadian Architecture, Exploring Vancouver, Exploring Ottawa, Reviving Main Street, Principles of Heritage Conservation, The Evaluation of Historic Buildings, The Sensible Rehabilitation of Older Houses, Encore: Recycling Public Buildings for the Arts, and Pioneer Churches.
He teaches cultural heritage at the University of Hong Kong (where he is honorary professor of Architecture) and at the University of Victoria (Canada). Hal was the 2006 recipient of the BC Heritage Award.
