Dr. Peter Borwein is the founding Project Leader and currently an Executive Co-Director of The IRMACS Centre. He is a Burnaby Mountain Chair at Simon Fraser University and has been a professor in the Mathematics Department since 1993 when he moved from Dalhousie University. He is also an Adjunct Professor in Computing Science. His research interests span various aspects of mathematics and computer science, health and criminology modelling and visualization.

After completing his BSc in molecular biology at Simon Fraser University in 2002, Dave then pursued an advanced specialty certificate in forensic science technology at BCIT, where he developed his passion for forensics.
He combined his background in science with his knowledge of cinematography, photography and computers to specialize in the field of forensic video analysis and surveillance technology. During his 6 years with the RCMP, Dave testified in court as an expert witness in the field of forensic video analysis and surveillance technology on multiple occasions.
As manager of BCIT's Forensic Video and Surveillance Technology lab, Dave oversees all training in the areas of: forensic video, imaging, cell-phone forensics, and surveillance video technology. Additionally, the lab acts as an authority on video and photographic evidence - offering its expertise on many high profile cases, including the recent Braidwood Inquiry into the death of Robert Dziekanski. Dave McKay and the lab were recently featured on the Discovery channel's “Daily Planet".
Dave McKay's current research interests include the development of advanced real-time video analysis software, self-sufficient intelligent camera systems, and complex forensic databases for the purpose of linkage through visual identification. Dr. Dean Hildebrand received his Ph.D. in 1996 from the University of British Columbia's Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. His knowledge of molecular biology stems from his graduate research and practical experience gained as a Post-doctoral Fellow and Research Associate.
He began his forensic career at UBC's Bureau of Legal Dentistry where he managed the forensic DNA testing and research.
Dr. Hildebrand is currently the Program Head of British Columbia Institute of Technology's Centre for Forensic and Security Technology Studies where runs the Centre's research and consulting activities in the area of forensic DNA analysis.
The laboratory he helped establish has the latest technology for DNA-based human identification: mitochondrial DNA analysis, short tandem repeats (including min-STR's and Y-STR's) which has facilitated faculty and student research and expert services on challenging cases for local, national and international coroner and police agencies.
Dr. Hildebrand's current research interests focus on forensic science, in particular the recovery and analysis of DNA from calcified tissues from degraded remains for the purposes of human identification.

Sheila Early is currently a Forensic Nursing Consultant in British Columbia and a Coordinator/Instructor at BCIT's Centre for Forensic and Security Technology Studies.
In 2004, Sheila developed the first Advanced Specialty Certificate in Forensic Health Care at BCIT; the first classroom delivered certificate in Canada. She has been teaching sexual assault nurse examiner courses throughout Canada since 1996.
Sheila has been a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner for 14 years and has testified in both Supreme and Provincial Courts in BC as an expert witness. Her background is in Emergency Nursing and she has been active in this role for 30 years.
In 2006, she retired from her role as coordinator and co-developer of the first Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program in BC at Surrey Memorial Hospital. This program was the second SANE program developed in Canada.
Sheila is currently one of the interim executives for the Forensic Nurses Society of Canada which received emerging specialty status with the Canadian Nurses Association in July, 2007. She travels internationally promoting forensic nursing in Europe and doing presentations on forensic nursing.

Marketing Management instructor Tracey Renzullo presented recently at a Vancouver Board of Trade “Lunch, Learn and Network" session sponsored by the School of Business.
Tracey spoke on connecting and engaging with consumers through social media in a talk called “Monetizing Your Website." She shared insight on moving the social conversation to a business' website, ultimately increasing traffic, sales and loyalty, and on how to use mobile marketing tactics to drive traffic and sales.
Tracey has developed, led and managed marketing campaigns across Canada in her senior marketing roles at Industrial Alliance Pacific and Seaboard. Tracey's recent focus has been in the area of Digital Marketing, with special emphasis in Social Media Marketing and Search Marketing. Tracey actively consults small to medium sized businesses in these high growth areas.
This working mother of three children is also a full-time instructor in the BCIT's School of Business where she has developed and taught courses in Internet Marketing, Direct Marketing, Financial Services Marketing, Marketing Analysis, and Marketing Communications Strategy. Tracey is a UBC Honours Commerce Graduate and lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Jay Notay recently joined BCIT as dean of the School of Transportation. He comes to BCIT with 15 years' experience in the Ontario post-secondary environment where he provided educational and administrative leadership.
Jay is currently enrolled in a PhD program at the University of Toronto within the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education and holds a Master of Education from Nipissing University.
Jay takes over from Ken Takagaki who spent the past two years as acting dean in the School of Transportation. Ken will continue to be a member of the Deans' Council and Leadership Team and will be working on special projects until his retirement in February 2012.

January 20, 2010 - Simon Fraser University has named Andrew Petter, past dean of the University of Victoria faculty of law and former British Columbia attorney general, as its ninth president and vice-chancellor.
Petter, 56, who was appointed after an international search, will take the reins of Canada's top comprehensive university on Sept. 1, when current president Michael Stevenson concludes his second five-year term.
Michael Francis, chair of the SFU board of governors, says that Petter brings to the presidency a life-long commitment to education as university teacher, constitutional scholar and academic administrator, most recently as the University of Victoria's longest serving dean of law.
Andrew Petter was born (1953) and raised in Victoria (Oak Bay). His father owned The Clock Shop on Victoria's Antique Row and his mother, who was once a professional dancer with the Bodenwieser ballet company of Vienna, taught dance. During Petter's high school years his family moved to Nelson, where he graduated from L.V. Rogers secondary school as class valedictorian.
He began his post-secondary studies at Nelson's former Notre Dame University (where his father had taken up a post as a history professor) and did a stint in the early 1970s as CKKC Radio's news director and open-line show host. There, he got a first-hand taste of politics interviewing the likes of newly elected premier Dave Barrett and former premier W.A.C. Bennett.
An avid follower of U.S. politics, his own political experience began at 19 when he was asked to serve as executive assistant to local MLA Lorne Nicolson.
Petter attended the University of Victoria (UVic) in 1976 to study political science. Encouraged by the law school's first dean, Murray Fraser, he entered the law program in 1978.
Graduating from UVic Law in 1981, he received the Law Society of BC Gold Medal for finishing top in his class, and went on to earn an LL.M (Public Law) with first-class honours from Cambridge University. Cambridge was also where his son Dylan was born.
Petter briefly practiced law in Saskatchewan before becoming an assistant professor at Osgoode Hall Law School (York University) in 1984. He joined the UVic Faculty of Law in 1986. He has taught and written extensively in the areas of constitutional law and public policy, and is currently a member of the B.C. and Saskatchewan law societies.
Petter taught in the UVic law faculty for five years before heeding Premier Mike Harcourt's call to run as NDP candidate in Saanich South in the 1991 provincial election. Petter spent the next decade as an MLA and held a series of key cabinet posts.
In 2001 Petter resumed his teaching career at UVic, soon filling the vacancy of acting dean in the faculty of law. He went on to serve as dean-the first graduate of the school to serve in that position-from 2002-2008.
In 2002 he received an honorary citizen award from the City of Victoria and in 2003 was given UVic's Distinguished Alumni Award.
In 2008 Petter stepped down as dean and resumed teaching and research. He was also awarded a residency as visiting scholar at the Rockefeller Foundation Centre in Bellagio, Italy.
Besides running 30 km a week, Petter spends his leisure time cycling, reading and attending theatre, opera and movies with his life partner Maureen Maloney. Campaign to Involve the Public in Shaping SFU
February 10, 2011 - Simon Fraser University president Andrew Petter today launched envision>SFU, a broad-reaching campaign to involve the public in shaping the future of one of Canada's leading comprehensive universities.
Says Petter: “I'm reaching out to our myriad communities to develop a strategic vision that reflects SFU's strengths and enhances our reputation as a student-centred, research-driven, and community-engaged institution. I hope everyone who cares about SFU will take the time to share their thoughts."
Through face-to-face encounters and online engagement, Petter is posing 10 strategic questions such as: What is distinctive about SFU? How can SFU increase its impact and relevance? What prospects and opportunities is SFU missing?
“SFU is no ivory tower," says Petter. “We're an active and engaged member of many communities and it's crucial for SFU to take a good long look at how we fit in and how we contribute. Staying relevant to the people and groups we serve is a critical part of what makes SFU distinctive. We need to examine our roles and relationships and ensure we're moving forward."
