Jim Brookes was Chief Operating Officer / Network Business Manager at MITACS before becoming President, ACCELERATE Canada, and worked for 25 years in the telecommunications market before joining MITACS as their Chief Operating Officer.
He worked for BC Tel, Stentor and TELUS in a variety of senior positions in Business Development, Marketing and General Management. Jim held the position of Vice-President of Local Services at BC Tel/TELUS where he grew a $2 B market and also was Vice-President of Business Transformation at TELUS.
Jim led the transformation at BC Tel to competition in both the Long Distance and Local markets. He has held senior positions in Service Development, Product Management and Marketing Information and Analysis. He also testified as an expert witness at several landmark regulatory proceeding. Jim has a B.A. and M.A. in Economics from Simon Fraser University.
Jim has previously been a member of the Board of Directors of the Vancouver Symphony where he was a member of the Executive Committee and chaired the Marketing Committee. Jim also volunteers his time as an Account Executive for the United Way and was previously a member of the Marketing Committee for the BC Cancer Foundation.

Mark was elected as CUPE BC's fulltime Secretary-Treasurer in 2005.
Prior to that he served on the CUPE BC executive board for 12 years in various capacities, including six years as a General Vice-President. A member since 1984, Mark was the president of CUPE Local 498, Port Coquitlam Municipal Employees for 15 years.
Mark chaired numerous CUPE BC committees prior to being elected as Secretary-Treasurer notably the Political Action Committee for eight years. He also chaired the Municipal Committee, the Transportation Committee, the Universities Committee and the Young Workers Task Force. Mark also currently serves on the CUPE BC Strong Communities Working Group.
Mark is on the CUPE National Executive Board representing British Columbia as a Regional Vice-President and was the first chair of the CUPE National Political Action Committee and is currently the National Union's Liaison to the Global Justice Committee. He also represents CUPE on the BC Federation of Labour Executive Council. He is also a member of the United Way Labour Committee.

Marnie Larson is the Chief Operating Officer of StarGarden Software a provider of HR and Payroll software solutions for larger organizations with complex pay and benefit requirements. Marnie has been with StarGarden for 10 years in a variety of management and consulting roles.

Dr. Arvind Gupta became the Scientific Director and CEO of MITACS in 1999. After obtaining his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Toronto in 1991, he joined the School of Computing Science at Simon Fraser University where he now holds the rank of Professor. His main interests are in the areas of algorithms, bioinformatics, and optimization and he has published over sixty papers in these fields.
He is the editor of two book series on industrial mathematics. He has organized a large number of national and international events and is currently the President of the 2011 International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics. Previous to joining MITACS, Dr. Gupta helped found the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences where he served as Deputy Director for 3 years.
He also helped found the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS), and now serves on its executive. At MITACS, he chairs the MITACS Research Management Committee, and is a member of the MITACS Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

Olga joined MITACS in October 2000, and plays a key role in the network's success. As Chief Operating Officer, her responsibilities include oversight of the overall operations and management of MITACS and direction of MITACS activities related to administration, grant management, human resources, and events.
Olga has a Master's Degree in English and Philosophy from the University of Constantin and Method in Nitra, Slovakia. Prior to emigrating to Canada, she was Senior Project Manager at Management Partners, the leading company in the Slovak HR market. She was highly successful in her role of recruiting personnel for international organizations opening subsidiaries in Slovakia.
